La Grúa Carola es la única superviviente de las muchas que en otros tiempos poblaron los muelles de Bilbao. Se halla instalada frente al Museo Marítimo, en los terrenos donde hoy se alza el Palacio Euskalduna que fueron sede de los Astilleros Euskalduna. ELa función de esta grúa er levantar, trasladar y voltear los elementos del casco o maquinaria que se habían construido en los talleres para acoplarlos al buque.

Una de las razones de su indulto está relacionado con la historia que le da nombre. Frente a los astilleros había un embarcadero para cruzar la ría. Cada tarde, una bella joven de Deusto llamada Carola, cruzaba la ría en bote para ir a trabajar a la plaza del Sdo. Corazón, y para ello debía atravesar las instalaciones de Euskalduna. Los operarios celebraban su llegada haciendo sonar las sirenas de la fábrica. En homenaje a Carola bautizaron con su nombre a la grúa. La grúa Carola permaneció en activo hasta el mismo cierre de los Astilleros Euskalduna en 1987.

The Carola Crane is the only survivor of the many that once populated the docks of Bilbao. It is installed in front of the Maritime Museum, on the land where the Euskalduna Palace stands today, which was the headquarters of the Euskalduna Shipyards. The function of this crane was to lift, move and turn the elements of the hull or machinery that had been built in the workshops to be attached to the ship.

One of the reasons for its saving is related to the story that gives it its name, Carola. In front of the shipyards there was a pier to cross the estuary. Every afternoon, a beautiful young woman from Deusto named Carola crossed the estuary by boat to go to work in the Plaza del Sagrado Corazón, and to do so she had to cross the Euskalduna facilities. The workers celebrated her arrival by sounding the factory sirens. In homage to Carola, they named the crane after her. The Carola crane remained active until the closure of the Euskalduna Shipyards in 1987.

Carola garabia da garai batean Bilboko kaietan izan ziren garabietatik bizirik atera den bakarra. Itsas Museoaren aurrean dago, gaur egun Euskalduna Jauregia dagoen eremuetan, Euskalduna Ontziolen egoitza izan ziren lurretan. Garabi honen funtzioa tailerretan eraiki ziren kroskoaren edo makineriaren elementuak jasotzea, lekualdatzea eta iraultzea, itsasontzira akoplatzeko.

Bere indultuaren arrazoietako bat izena ematen dion historiarekin lotuta dago. Ontziolen parean, itsasadarra zeharkatzeko ontziraleku bat zegoen.
